New Video: How to Apply Pebax Heat Shrink Tubing

Wondering about Pebax® Heat Shrink Tubing? We’ve got the video you’ve been waiting for.

Filmed in our new Applications Lab, this 60-second video shows you how to apply Pebax Heat Shrink Tubing onto a tube. In this case it’s polyimide, but you can use many other types of tubing as a substrate.

In our experience, getting the temperature right can avoid a lot of common heat shrink tubing problems down the road. The shrink temperatures on our data sheets represent minimums, and the temperature range increases as the durometer increases. For example, the 340° F temperature listed on our data sheet for Pebax tubing is a good starting point for 40D tubing. In this video, we’ve set our hot box to 400° F to shrink 74D tubing.

We’ve found that there’s usually some variation in most equipment between the temperature setting and the actual temperature of the air that reaches the tubing, so we recommend verifying your temperature with a thermocouple.

Our new video demonstrates the quick, smooth lamination that makes thin, flexible Pebax Heat Shrink Tubing such a great solution for applications that need a uniform outer jacket, such as a laser-cut hypotube. In order to activate the self-adhesive property of Pebax tubing, you need to advance the tubing slowly through the heat to allow the tubing to adhere to your substrate.

If you encounter any challenges, contact us. Our Applications Lab technical team can test your substrate, advise you on the right tubing, and help you to develop the optimal application process for your project.
